Description
A very rare sample of gangue-crystallized labradorite associated with black crystals of barkevikite (an amphibole), discovered in small quantities at Monastier-sur-Gazeille in the Haute-Loire department.
The crystal is whole, finely scarred on its left side.
This gem crystal is one of the most beautiful found, at least on gangue. This mineral belongs to the plagioclase feldspar family and is rarely found as a gem.
There are a few rare French specimens, and this one belonged to the collection of mineralogist Eric Asselborn.
