Garnet crystals (Hessonite), Jeffrey Mine, Asbestos, Quebec, Canada.

240,00

This specimen of hessonite garnet crystals is truly of the finest quality: their brilliance and sparkle, and the fact that they are gems, make them an aesthetic piece worthy of inclusion in any good collection.
Beautiful mineralogy!
The piece was discovered in the 1970s in the huge open-pit quarry at Asbestos, Quebec, once mined for asbestos (Jeffrey Mine).
It’s one of the largest man-made “holes” on Earth.
This locality has provided world-famous garnets and many other fine mineral species.
This specimen comes from the mineral collection of one of the farm’s geologists, Francesco Spertini.
The specimen has two flaws (see crystal left and right), but it’s a high-quality specimen at a very reasonable price, very aesthetically pleasing, and would be sold for between $2,000 and $3,000 without it.
