Description
A great classic of Moroccan mineralogy. These are lustrous red crystals of vanadinite, a lead chlorovanadate, on an iron gangue from Mibladen in eastern Morocco.
Nice color contrast between the crystals and the gangue; good overall quality of the vanadinite crystals.
The Mibladen mining district is the world’s most important site for vanadinite, an ore containing lead and vanadium. Located around 25 km north of Midelt, the site is formed of limestone and dolomite deposits of the Lias or Lower Jurassic age, of interest to industry for the extraction of lead and zinc, but also to geologists for the discovery of minerals such as vanadinite, wulfenite, barite, galena, cerussite and anglesite.
