Description
Apophyllite is a hydrothermal or secondary mineral of basic volcanic rocks, where it occurs in association with zeolites.
Here, it occurs as large yellow to white crystals on a gray gangue.
Specimen from Val di Fassa, Italy, from the De Chalendar collection, a family of industrialists who built up a mineralogical collection focusing on iron, manganese and other ores in the 19th and 20th centuries.
