Description
This autunite specimen features the fine, delicate, bright-yellow lamellae typical of this quarry.
This French uranium-bearing mineral comes from a site that was mined in the 1970s. Under the generic name of “Mine(s) de Margnac”, eleven uranium operations, including the Margnac I and II deposits, Pény, la Vauzelle, etc., have been identified. Some of these operations were underground mines, others were open-cast mines (MCO).
As all the mines in the Limousin region have now been exhausted and closed, it is impossible to find this type of mineralogical specimen in the field.
Specimen from the Jean Ventenat collection (1968), to which a space is dedicated at the Ambazac site, then from the Alain Martaud collection.
Autunite, Razes Haute-Vienne, Limousin
