Description
Exceptional group of azurite crystals, flat, intense midnight blue and very bright, as they are preserved in halloysite (white), from the period when the Chessy mine was in operation, in the first half of the 19th century. These azurite crystals form a flower, a rose, complete from every angle. This specimen comes from the mineral collection of Émile-Auguste Doumet (1796 – 1869). The world-famous Chessy mine has been exploited for copper since Celtic times (the Segusiaves), supplying the famous chessylite since the discovery of the blue mine in 1811 by master miner Christian Traugott Wöllner while tracing the Baronnat gallery. The town of Chessy-les-Mines is located northwest of Lyon, in the Rhône department. Here’s a video of this azurite rose from the Chessy mine:
