Bergleder (Serpentinite), Findelen Gletscher bei Zermatt, Switzerland.

25,00

A specimen of serpentinite, an almost fibrous asbestos-like rock formed in the oceanic crust. The label reads “bergleder”, which translates as “mountain leather”, another name for paligorskyte. This is an error, as this mineral is clearly closer to serpentinite.

From the Findelen glacier near Zermatt, Switzerland.

Specimen from the mineralogical collection of the Bally Museum in Schönenwerd, Switzerland (19th century).
