Chondrodite, magnetite and clinochlore, Tilly Foster Mine, New York, USA.

350,00

Chondrodite, accompanied by Magnetite and Clinochlore, from the Tilly Foster mine, which produced the best known specimens of this mineral species.

Deep reddish-brown, translucent, isometric chondrodite crystals. The mineral is accompanied by bright magnetite crystals, with the presence of clinochlore, including a 1.1 cm hexagonal tabular crystal.

Chondrodite is a mineral of the nesosilicate family with the formula (Mg,Fe)5(SiO4)2(F,OH,O)2. Although a fairly rare mineral, it is the most frequently encountered member of the humite mineral group.

The Tilly Foster iron mine is located at Brewster in Putnam County, north of New York City (in the state of the same name), USA.

Specimen delivered with handwritten labels from the collections of Paris mineral dealers Deyrolle and Boubée.
