Description

This is a specimen of cinnabar, a mercury sulfide, red and crystallized and extremely heavy for its size. The mercury concentration must be very high.

Matte: a mixture of iron and copper sulfides (in this case, mercury sulfide) from the first smelting of a sulfide ore.
