Grossular garnet and axinite, Pic de Baxouillade, Ariège.

The Pyrenees are well worth taking an interest in mineralogy. Although less well known than the Alps in this field, they also produce some very fine specimens. Such is the case with this piece of grossular garnet crystals. The brilliant orange-red crystals are of the finest quality. Here, they are associated with large axinite crystals. These minerals were found at Pic de Baxouillade, Orlu, near the Galbe valley in Ariège, close to the border with the Pyrénées-Orientales, by mineralogist Patrice Queneau.
