Aggregate of hausmannite crystals on gangue, named after Jean-Frédéric-Louis Hausmann, German mineralogist (1782-1859).
The pseudo-octahedral crystals are shiny black, with a beautiful metallic luster.
Hausmannite is a manganese oxide with worldwide occurrences.
This specimen comes from the Wessels mine in South Africa, and is part of the large collection of Belgian chemist René Hubin.
