Description
Beautiful piece of well-crystallized ilvaite from the Isle of Elba in Italy, where the type locality for this mineral species is located. Ilvaite, from the Latin Ilva, the former name of the island of Elba, is an iron-calcium sorosilicate frequently associated with pyrite, goethite and hematite and found in mineral deposits associated with contact metamorphism. Formerly part of the Philippe Glastre collection.
