Beautiful example of lazulite, with a polished section highlighting the shimmering blue, from Dattas, Minas Gerais, Brazil.
Lazulite is a metal phosphate of formula MgAl2(PO4)2(OH)2 , rarely crystallized, its intense blue color makes it a mineral appreciated for the manufacture of pendants.
This specimen is from the mineral collection of Deyrolle, a former naturalist dealer in Paris. It comes with its original label, which dates from the 1950s/1970s.
