Cacholong opal is a variety of white opal with no iridescence.
This sample from the Isle of Elba in Italy is particularly interesting for its history.
It belonged to the collection of naturalist Michel Adanson (1727-1806), then to the collection of Émile-Auguste Doumet (1796 – 1869).
The box comes from the Adanson collection and the label from the Doumet collection.
