Description
Prehnite is above all a silicate with traces of many minerals in its composition. In 1771, it was first called Cape Chrysolite, after Balthazar Georges Sage.
The prehnite of the Combe de la Selle (French Alps) is well known, but here we’re talking about a much better-known locality overseas, the Upper New Street quarry, in Paterson, New Jersey, USA.
It is shown here as a water-green globule in a dark rock breccia. Crystallization is called botryoidal.
