Description
Black authigenic quartz crystal on anhydrite matrix from Rio Canalaccio, Emilia-Romagna, Italy. Authigenic quartz in saliferous terrains, frequently associated with gypsum itself and loaded with anhydrite inclusions, seems to have originated during the evaporation period. The term, as used, often refers to a mineral (such as quartz or feldspar) formed after the deposition of the original sediment.
