Description
Large set of quartz crystals on diorite. The gangue has been broken and then healed by quartz. Crystallization on both sides of the dioritic gangue. This specimen comes from the Bierghes quarry, located in the province of Brabant Wallon, 20 km east of Lessines and 30 km west of Brussels, Belgium.
The quarried rock is of plutonic magmatic origin, and has yielded pockets of superb quartz with a variety of facies.
In contrast to the rather young alpine quartz, these crystals are over 300 million years old. The magazine “Le Règne Minéral” devoted an article to this renowned Belgian deposit. Low price, not to be missed!
