Description
Quartz crystals on diorite. This specimen comes from the Bierghes quarry in the province of Brabant Wallon, 20 km east of Lessines and 30 km west of Brussels, Belgium.
The quarried rock is of plutonic magmatic origin, and has yielded pockets of superb quartz of varied facies.
In contrast to the rather young alpine quartz, these crystals are over 300 million years old.
The magazine “Le Règne Minéral” devoted an article to this highly reputed Belgian deposit.
