Pink mass of rhodonite, a manganese silicate mineral from the Prabona mine or its surroundings in Saint Marcel, Aosta Valley, Italy.
The name “marcelline” refers to the locality.
This piece comes from the collection of Aristide Gouverneur (1829-1898), a scholar from the Eure-et-Loir region of France, and is supplied with its handwritten label and original box.
