Exceptional mameloniated smithsonite with a beautiful blue-green color on a red ferrous gangue.
A historic piece collected in the 19th century in the ancient mines of Laurion in Greece.
From the collection of Grenoble crystal-maker Philippe Glastre.
The Laurion mining massif is located south of Attica in Greece, and was mainly known in antiquity for its silver mines.
It was re-exploited in the 19th century by the Compagnie française des mines du Laurion, at which time this piece was collected.

    Exceptional blue-green mamelonne smithsonite on a red ferrous gangue. A historic piece collected in the 19th century in the ancient mines of Laurion in Greece. From the collection of Grenoble crystal-maker Philippe Glastre. The Laurion mining massif is located south of Attica in Greece, and was mainly known in antiquity for its silver mines. It was re-exploited in the 19th century by the Compagnie française des mines du Laurion, when the piece was harvested.
