Description
Set of brown to red sphalerite crystals partially embedded in calcite and silicified dolomite from the Beauraing mine in the eponymous locality near Namur, Belgium. Nice size for the locality.
The Beauraing mine exploited a breccia vein of galena with sphalerite as an associated mineral, the latter often being more abundant than the sought-after lead-based ore. The ore was emplaced during a post-Variscan period and filled fractures formed in the Givétien.
