Description
Sturmanite is a rare sulfate of the ettringite group, named in 1983 in honor of Bozidar Darko Sturman, mineralogist at the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto, Canada.
It is a secondary mineral found in manganese deposits.
This sample comes from the type locality: the N’Chwaning mines, near the town of Hotazel, in the Kalahari manganese field, famous for rhodochrosite, in South Africa.
