Description
Finely crystallized sulfur in grayish-beige tuff (a volcanic rock, the result of fiery clouds).
The yellow color is slightly faded, but still present.
Indeed, over time, the yellow color of sulfur can fade.
These crystals come from the La Solfatare volcano, from the Latin sulpha terra (sulfur earth), the volcano that gave its name to the areas of fumaroles producing a lot of sulfur.
The volcano is located north of Naples in Italy.
A 19th-century piece from the mineral collection of the Musée Bally in Lausanne, Switzerland. Supplied with its antique label.
