Description
A great classic of Moroccan mineralogy. These are well-lustered red crystals of vanadinite, a lead chlorovanadate, on an iron gangue from Mibladen in eastern Morocco.
The Mibladen mining district is the world’s most important site for vanadinite, an ore containing lead and vanadium. Located about 25 km north of Midelt, this site is formed of limestone and dolomite deposits of the Lias or Lower Jurassic, interesting the industry for the extraction of lead and zinc, but also the geologists because of the discovery of minerals such as vanadinite, wulfenite, barite, galena, cerussite and anglesite.
