Description
A sample showing zinkenite needles on a white quartz gangue. Minerals found in the 1980s during work on the Rampe des Commères tunnel, in the commune of Mont-de-Lans, in the Oisans region of the Isère département. The discovery was published in the magazine “Le Monde et les Minéraux” at the time. Zinkenite is a lead-antimony sulfide mineral that is rare in the Alps, but whose Saint-Pons deposit in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence département has provided some of the best specimens in the world.
